Many parents who feel confused by
the term autism. Especially after they get diagnosis by an expert such as: the
psychologist that his son's diagnosis of autism. An assortment of things that
might confuse parents in diagnosis or term, i.e., autism, Autistic, autism
Infantile, PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder),PDD-NOS (Not Otherwise
Specified), Atypical Autism, Asperger's, ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), the
MSDD (Multi System Developmental Disorder),
In this article I'll review again
about what is PDD-PDD NOS and also to let you know where lies the difference.
PDD were a group of autistic
developmental disorder/problem consisting of 5things that were introduced in
1980 by the APA (the American Pediatric Association). The fifth group is
composed of autism, Asperger's Syndrome,
Rett's Syndrome, CDD (Childhood Disintegrative Disorder), and PDD-NOS. the term
PDD actually is not a diagnosis, this is just a term for a diagnosis, it is
primarily used by a doctor who hesitate to say a child/the toddler of the very
young to the more specific case of autism.
Pervasive Developmental Disorder
(PDD) is a group of developmental disorders that usually look real when
children from 3 years, but signs of this disorder are usually already visible
before the child is 3 years old. So early detection before the child is 3 years
old is absolutely necessary in order for proper handling can be immediately
given.
In General, children with PDD
usually had three disorders namely disorders of communication such as
difficulty speaking, impaired interaction for example don't want to play with
the children of her age or any other person, and repetitive behaviors such as
behaviour disorders – stereotipik/"strange" behavior that is done
over and over again. Based on the definition of the DSM IV (American
Psychiatric Association, 1994), the PDD is a disruption in social interaction,
impaired communication, and in the presence of behavior, interests and
activities.
While the term PDD-NOS is used if
a child shows some signs/symptoms of autistic but do not meet the existing
criteria for autism or as any other form of PDD. PDD-NOS is also sometimes
refers to the term APD (Atypical Personality Development), APDD (Atypical PDD)
or Atypical Autism or ASD are categorized in closer on the diagnosis of
Asperger's Syndrome, although it may not fit. Or the fact the child showed
signs of autism but the absence of some other symptoms of autism. Regarding the
story of PDD-NOS in more detail you can read in my previous article Knowing PDD-NOS Is One Of The Autism Spectrum Disorders
